Money matters

Ukraine has its own currency which is called Ukrainian Hryvnia. All the payments in Ukraine are made in UAH. You can pay in cash or you can use a credit/debit card. Sometimes prices are connected with the American Dollar, because it's more stable than the Ukrainian Hryvnia.

Currency and Exchange Rate

The currency is regulated by the National Bank of Ukraine, but it may vary a little, depending on the bank. In the overview below, you can see how many Ukrianian Hryvnia's you get for each foreign currency. So for example you see how many Ukrainian Hryvnia's (UAH) you get for one Australian Dollar and so on.

Cash Exchange

In Ukraine you can exchange each currency into UAH. You can do it in special places, which are called Currency Exchange and situated in all the big cities within 300-400 meters. Also you can change money at the bank. Last few years to change the money the person needs to give a passport.

Payment Cards and Travelers' Checks

Visa and Master Cards are popular everywhere in Ukraine and you can use them to pay in different places, such as restaurants, shopping malls and places of entertainment. Although in small shops and markets you will have to pay by cash.
Travelers' Checks are not very popular in Ukraine, thus we recommend tourists to not use them. Although if you have no other choice, but travelers' checks, our company will give you a personal consultation on how to use it in a city you are at.

Tipping

In Ukrainian restaurants and cafes the normal tipping rate is the same as in other countries and it is 10% of the total amount of the bill. You have to check the bill, because sometimes it is already included in the total price.
